Library Liaisons
Each academic department has a faculty member who serves as a Liaison to the library. These Liaisons notify the faculty of ordering deadlines and collect faculty requests for new titles. They work with the Library Director to identify subject areas that are important to the curriculum and encourage faculty to submit requests for books and media to support their classes.
This money is part of the Library’s budget, so technically the library has the final say over selections that are added to the collection, but most requests are honored and problems are rare. When they do arise, it us usually due to something being too expensive or too far outside of the the subject scope of the library. Each request is reviewed carefully, taking into consideration the library's collection development policy, the existing collection, and the current budget.
- The Library Liaison is an academic department’s primary representative to the library for collection development issues. They act as a go-between for their department and the library.
- The Library Director consults with a Liaison from each academic department to help identify subject areas in the curriculum that will require support during the year.
- The Liaisons coordinate faculty-requests for titles that directly support upcoming classes.
- The Liaisons also help monitor the library’s fund balance for department requests.
- Contact your library liaison to request new titles for the library.
- New titles should support classes that are taught in your department.
