Crossing Boundaries

Jarrad Powell (Music '83 / Faculty, Music Department) defies the boundaries of musical traditions and forms. A highly complex and prolific artist, he pursues music along seemingly infinite avenues, including instrumental music for western and non-western instruments, vocal music, music for theater, dance and, more recently, film. Jarrad describes himself as "living the complete musical life." He composes, performs, teaches, writes and builds instruments.

Duet

Lisa Halpern (Theater '87), Jose Gonzales (Theater '89) It's not uncommon to hear jazz music lilting out the front door of the unassuming blue house perched beneath the shade of Seward Park's maple and magnolia trees. Step through the door, and you'll find a baby grand piano nestled in the living room, Jose Gonzales (Theater '89) behind the keys, and Lisa Halpern (Theater '87) standing beside him, her elegant voice filling the room.

Fraser's Edge

Brendan Fraser (Theater '90) - Behind closed doors at the new downtown campus of Cornish College of the Arts, a large audience of Acting students wait with nervous anticipation for Alumnus and celebrity guest speaker, Brendan Fraser. Undeniably tall, dark and handsome, Brendan strides in and the classroom grows hushed - then the students break out into warm applause. Brendan's friendly, relaxed demeanor resonates with energy more akin to a tall puppy than a Hollywood movie star.

Interactive Design

Andi Rusu (Design '92) - From the interface on a mobile phone to the graphics that define the look of a music video or computer game, every piece of media in our world is an opportunity for innovative design. The amazing realism of the new computer-generated blockbuster movies are created by teams of talented creative people. As the Internet expands every year, so do the opportunities for designers who are adept with the multi-disciplinary demands of interactive technologies.
