Gifts of Stock

A gift of appreciated securities may allow you to make a larger gift than if you sell the stock and donate the net proceeds. If you own stock, bonds or other publicly traded securities for more than one year, your gift provides you with a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities on the date of the gift and you do not incur capital gains tax on the securities.
